1.This photo was taken by Jack Delano in May 1941.
2. This is an outdoor photo taken during the day in a rural area. The lighting ranges from very light up close to dark and shadowy in the back.
3. Yes, there are three people in this photo. They look to be about 9 to 14 years old. Their clothes are ratty, dirty, and worn, and their expressions carry the weight of an adult's, a result of living during the Great Depression.Their faces are what first caught my eye, and their expressions of misery.
4. This photo is set on the porch of an old, dilapidated looking shack. Behind the children is what looks like the remnants of a chair or stool. 5/6. This photo has an oppressive, hopeless feeling to it. The children are living in squalor, and judging by their expressions, they know it well. I think it demonstrates the hopelessness some African Americans must have felt to be pushed down even lower into poverty during the Great Depression when they had been pretty bad to start off with thanks to the prejudice of society.
7. I would ask the photographer where the children's parents at the time the picture was taken and whether he felt he was welcome or not on their property.

1. This photo was taken by Dorothea Lange in July 1936.
2. The setting of this photo is outdoors in a crop field, it is daytime, and in a rural area.
3. There is one middle-aged women in the photo. She is wearing a long, white, flannel dress, a large sun hat, and no shoes. She is african american and she immediately catches my attention because she is made to be the main focus and presents a very strong, decdicated feeling about her. The fact that she is out working hard in the fields draws me to her.
4. There are no structures in the photograph.
5. The tone of the photograph is diligent and unenthusiastic.
6. This photograph of an african american women working in a field makes me think. I feel that she would be very strong, freehearted, and hardworking person. I get the feeling that she doesn't want to be there as much as any other person would, yet she tolerates it because the money is essential to keeping herself afloat. It also makes me sad when I see that she has no shoes, the work she does must be hard on her.
7. I would ask the subject of the picture- How exactly has the Depression affected you, have you always had this job in the fields or was it an result of the times?
I would ask the photographer- What interested you about this women and scene, did that make you want to photograph her?

1. This photo was taken by John Collier in August 1941.
2. The setting of this photo is indoors, it is bright, and most likely in an urban area.
3. In the picture there are six men, only two are facing the camera. They appear to be in their early twenties and are dressed in airforce uniforms. They are shown eating dinner, their plates are filled with chicken, mashed potatoes, and other foods. Their uniforms immediately caught my attention, and were a distinguishing feature as to who they were.
4. There are no shown structures in the picture, but I can assume they are in some type of building.
5. The tone of the photograph is light, postive, and content.
6. This photograph instantly caught my attention, I was interested in who exactly the men in it where. I was intriged to learn that they were in the airforce. This picture illuminates a happy, calm feeling and is pleasing to look at. I feel that by their job they must always be in danger, but for the few hours they actully get to sit down to a meal and relax must be a nice change. They are probably very brave, dedicated people.
7. I would ask the two men in the photo- What is life like in the airforce on a day to day basis?
I would ask the photographer- How did you get the chance to get into the meal-time of this airforce regament?

2. The setting of the photo is outdoors, it is light out and daytime, and in an urban area.
3. In the photo there is one man standing with his back turned to the camera. He looks like he could be anywhere from ages 25-40 and is wearing a dress suit, hat, and dress shoes. A distinguishing feature in the picture is the store window telling all the foods and prices it is selling for.
4. In the photo their is a business, McCollum Grocery Co. It is a pretty good condition, made of bricks, and a glass door and window. I would assume there are other brick made business surrounding it.
5. The tone of the photo is calm and thoughtful, or neutral.
6. This photo was interesting to look at, there is a lot of little details to observe. The man in front seems to be looking at the food prices written on the window and deep in thought. Outside the store are fruits and watermelons giving me the feeling it is likely summer time. This is probubly a very common scene but it is still appealing.
7. A question I would ask the photographer- What was so interesting about this everyday shot that made you want to photograph it?
A question I would ask the man- What were you thinking as you were looking into the store, did you want to buy something but not have the money to?

You can see about 10 people clearly in casual suits, along with a dog and a car during the daytime. The photograph is somewhat solemn, and shows hints that people’s moods are affected negatively by the Depression.
7. I would ask the photographer what stood out to him enough for him to take this picture, and what the building in this picture was.

The photograph is a picture of a man’s desk. It has a picture of a girl, who might be his wife, an ashtray with a cigarette in it, a hat with a military emblem on it, and a toy plane. The picture shows how this man in the military has a life back home and a woman that he misses and is fighting to support. The hat shows that he supports his country and is willing to fight for it, and that he is an honorable and respectful man. The plane shows that he is also a human being who was once an innocent child just like everyone else.
7.I would ask the photographer why they chose to take a picture of a desk, because it seems to be a somewhat random picture, and there must have been some reason to take it. I would also ask about the woman in the picture, since she is the center of attention in this photograph.

People risked themselves everyday to support themselves and their families. 7. I would ask the photographer why the men were pushing the car, because performing that task is the main focus of the picture. I would also why the rest of the area seemed so empty of people.
